Find Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Schools in Nevada

The first thing to look for when choosing a diagnostic medical sonography training program in Nevada is to determine if it is accredited by the CAAHEP. The largest accreditor in the Allied Health fields is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

The ARDMS exam requires a minimum amount of clinical training before you are eligible to sit for it, and non-accredited schools often do not offer enough to meet the minimum. ARDMS stands for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and is the organization that provides licensing for ultrasound technicians in the U.S. Having a license from the ARDMS is not required for employment, but only a few hospitals or clinics will hire you without it. It has been reported that several insurance companies will not pay claims for ultrasounds taken by unlicensed technicians.

If you are unable to achieve enough hours of practical training while attending classes, you will need to earn hours by working for doctors or clinics that don’t require you to have a license. The concern with this option is that these will be lower paying positions that are, in all honesty, hard to find. You will most likely be working part time and getting far less than your time is worth. Unless you are working more than twenty hours per week, which is very unlikely in this situation, it will take you over a year to get to the 1,000 hours needed to take the ARDMS exam.
